Ingredients 

Stew

  • 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into cubes
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 cups carrots, sliced
  • 2 cups potatoes, diced
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • to taste salt and pepper

Dumplings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions 

  1. 1. In a large pot, brown the beef over medium heat. Remove and set aside.
  2. 2. In the same pot, sauté the onion and garlic until softened.
  3. 3. Add the beef back to the pot along with the beef broth, carrots, potatoes, tomato paste, thyme, and rosemary. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. 4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
  5. 5. For the dumplings, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Stir in the milk and melted butter until just combined.
  6. 6. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter onto the simmering stew. Cover and cook for 15 minutes, or until dumplings are cooked through.
