Main Ingredients
- 6 large Onions thinly sliced
- 4 tablespoons Butter
- 2 cloves Garlic minced
- 1 cup Dry White Wine
- 8 cups Beef Broth
- 1 teaspoon Thyme dried
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 baguette French Bread sliced and toasted
- 2 cups Gruyere Cheese grated
1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized, about 20 minutes.
2. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
3. Pour in the wine to deglaze the skillet, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
4. Transfer the onion mixture to the slow cooker. Add the beef broth, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
5. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
6. Preheat the broiler. Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls, top with toasted bread slices, and sprinkle with Gruyere cheese.
7. Place the bowls under the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes.
8. Serve hot and enjoy!
